Weird Glitch When Video Loads

Nick when you say increase Serato usb buffer do you Mean lower it? to the right or Left.

Damn - that's no good :( and after all the positive results from your tests.... What I meant about the USB buffer is to set it to a higher number (e.g. 10, 15 or 20) and see if that has any effect.

Still Glitching :( no real way of knowing why this is Happening? Using 2 Mac's that are Alike all but the graphics card is the only thing I see. I have not tried to erase Perian but I will try that. Also I wonder why it does do it while using VSL?

Yeah - the keyframe settings that have been used to encode the videos aren't really ideal, and this is similar to the warning messages in the videos that DJ Steve has. It's hard to say whether this might be the cause of the problems - all I can say is that it will definitely be putting your computer under a lot of strain if MixEmergency attempts to seek within one of those areas of your video that has a large keyframe distance.

Yeah my keyframes warnings were 170 on average. I have some newly encoded videos where I have forced the keyframes to about 25 (Nick's recommendation from previous thread) will let you know how I get on. Also I noticed when I was playing out on weds night that the SSL record display seemed to be struggling when a video was playing, ie wasn't turning smoothly as if something else was working in the background or it was struggling to play the currently playing video. That's when it's most likely to glitch/stutter. Will let you know how I get on later. Also just for the record I was only running latest SSL & ME

That's interesting (about the struggling video). I wonder if you could try, for another test, turning off the option "Synchronize Output to Screen Refresh" and see if that helps at all? This will likely cause a slight degradation of the output image, but I'd be interested to see if it helps at all.

Here's a progress update. Synchronize Output to Screen Refresh didn't work, still glitching. Something for okdoggman to try. I have been testing at home after speaking to Nick and have been having really positive results. I will not be able to fully test it until I work this Weds night but I think it's worth both of us testing this new idea. I got no glitches on over 100 videos at HOME. Some of the videos were with the big keyframe issue (over 150 frames), some were keyframe fixed (keyframe rate 25) and some were not even in the database and these loaded and wrote the tags with no issue and some were on the MacBook internal HDD and some were on an external HDD. I am not saying this is a fix but if you can confirm my findings that would be great. First you need to download & install Perian. Secondly you need to got to Applications folder then Utilities and then Terminal. To activate H.264 decoding with Perian you need to copy & paste the following line into the Terminal window & press enter. defaults write org.perian.Perian DecodeAllProfiles -bool YES When you have done that can you please let us know how you got on with your testing okdoggman. Once again thanks to Nick for the time spent with me last night trying to sort out this issue. Also I found that I got no stuttering when videos were playing and I opened and closed the MixEmergency software which wasn't the case before. And to disable it if you ever need to: defaults write org.perian.Perian DecodeAllProfiles -bool NO

Hi okdoggman & Nick, I'm still getting glitches with the previous advice but something that REALLY REALLY seems to help is if you reduce the screen refresh rate in SSL to 30 frames per second. This doesn't make any noticeable difference to what you can see. I was getting the odd random glitch but once I did the above it just seems to have disappeared. It kinda makes sense as sometimes I noticed that some of the glitches were in tune with the file being written to the display. I'm working later tonight so will let you know how I've got on.

Let me get this Right your saying Change Frame work in SSL to 30 frames per sec? Did it stop the the glitches all together or did you still have them, and do I do all of this with all the settings you have suggested, also do you mean Screen update when you say Screen refresh in SSl?

Also I tested the idea you had about Using terminal to have Perian Decode vidz Still got glitches Tonight not really any noticeable Change With that Idea But thx so Much for info. Ill try the refresh at 30 Frames

hi okdoggman, all my settings are as b4, the refresh rate seemed to work when I was getting consistent glitches. Just been testing again and I'm still getting glitches be it more random. I beginning to lose the will to live with this, keep thinking I've made progress then back to square one.

I know this is gonna sound really weird, Backed up everything and reinstalled my Os Fresh Snow leopard 10.6.7 Just to make sure Once and for all if its something I installed wrong, Well still got the Glitches which I couldn't BeLieve so I looked at my old MacBook and seen the Only Difference was My Backlight on the keyboard, I turn off the Light and didn't have anymore Problem. But why some nights I can Play no Problems but then others Night Glitches? Ill do further testing tonight but Im really Frustrated. Im even considering Swapping out the ram From my macbook To my Macbook Pro to see if theres a difference. Ill let you guys Know something by Monday :(

Okdoggman the fault is with Serato SSL and our laptops. 2 nights running I was playing just audio and decided to play the odd video track. No video software was turned on and no Internet and bang!! Glitch!! We have been looking at this the wrong way m8, I think it's worth you trying it yourself to confirm my findings!! I'm sure you will have probs m8

Serato has been having MAJOR issues. post 1.9.2 you can either, download the newest update (As of 4-8-2011) and then re-scan your entire collection (build new overviews) or do what I, and alot of other dudes do. remove all instances of SSl, and install 1.9.2. and rescan your collection there.

Cheers for your comments djjoshuacarl, I'm willing to try anything at this moment in time to get this sorted. I'm reasonably new to macbook so when you say 'build new overviews' do you mean also deleting my crate info as I have put a lot of work into those, or is it possible to just clear everything and import my crates later? Also how do I remove ALL instances of SSL b4 I install 1.9.2 once again thanks for your input
