Hidden feature....

Hi all. I got sick of waiting for VideoSL 1.1, and having promised a promoter a video set this weekend I took the plunge and bought ME today. Already tried the demo using a monitor in the booth last week, and it seems stable enought to me (touch wood). Very excited to give it a go at the weekend. I'd love to get this live stream action on the go, and I might be being dumb but I can't figure out what the above download is meant to do? No sign of it in the manual from what I can see. Can anyone break down how to set this up please? Thanks.

Download the file. Unzip it. Then drag the unzipped file "LoadVideo.DVInputStream" onto one of the media preview views. This should load the default video input (which should be your iSight, or a DV camera if one is attached). Let me know if you have any problems using it, as this feature is still hidden for 2 reasons: 1) the feature isn't been finished (e.g. better user interface, usability) 2) the feature hasn't been widely tested.

Thanks for the swift response Nick. I'll try that out today. Ran ME for about 4 hours last night at home, on my Macbook Pro 1st gen, and all seems wel so far. Can't wait for my first video set on Saturday! You've made an awesome product. Cheers.

Can the users that have this working please post the cameras used ? My camcorder is not recognized by my mac, guess i need a new one. Currently own a canon z 200 Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks, Alex.

Hey Nick, I have a gig coming this weekend and I'd like to put this hidden feature to work but can't find an app to unzip or open the file once it's on my desktop. Any suggestions???

Hey Nick, So I'm back. I have the live feed working fine with my isight. Trying to use an camcorder and the cam shows up in iMovie but not in MixEmergeny. Any suggestions???

I'm not 100% sure of this, but you may have to set it up as the default camera for QuickTime. To do this, open QuickTime Player. Go to QT Player's preferences. In the Recording section of the preferences set the Video Source to your DV camera and then try loading it in MixEmergency again. Let me know how you get on.

This is NOT working with my external Isight firewire camera. No matter what I do, it always turns on the internal Isight, which has far worse framerate. I was able to get it to work a few times the first time I tried, by opening Ichat preferences and having the internal isight already on before trying in ME. Anyone know how to completly disable the internal Isight with disabling DV video functionality, therefore allow the external isight to always come on. Thanks this would help a great deal.

Hey Pete, You need to set up the external iSight to be the default input. To do this: 1. Connect the external iSight 2. Open QuickTime Player 3. Go into QuickTime Player -> Preferences -> Recording 4. Set the "Video Source" to your external iSight Now it should open by default in MixEmergency.

Hi Nick. If was to record the live feed on an external dv cam would Mix Emergency be able to render it into a recorded mix?

I'm not quite sure which of the following you mean. 1. Have MixEmergency record your DV cam: No, that's not possible yet. MixEmergency would need to compress and save the video frames in real-time to be able to do this - which would add extra strain on your computer. 2. Have MixEmergency add a separate recorded file as an overlay while exporting: No, that's not possible either. The best thing to do in this case would be to use a video editing application, such as Final Cut Pro to add the file over your mix.

Hey Nick how is it going, Just made the switch from VSL to ME and I'm loving it. I got a gig coming up in September and I'd like to be able to use this feature, I have ME 1.5 and OSX 10.5.8, 4gb RAM. I noticed that this thread was started a while ago, so my question is if this feature's been tested more or if you know of any users having any issues? Thanks for your help!

There aren't any known issues with this hidden feature. MixEmergency 1.5 added a few issue fixes for this feature (there were some slight scaling issues on some DV cameras). There are still some issues that need to be addressed in the way that we eventually intend this to work within MixEmergency, and that is why it is still a hidden feature.

As i seen a post above about listing the cameras that are used, but none have been listed... for everyone that is using this, can you please list your camera type so we know what cameras work with this? Thanks
