Midi crossfader not working properly 100% of the time

Not sure if this is the right place to ask for help with this problem. I am running a Pioneer DJM700 mixer with an M-Audio midi controller and in normal use the crossfader in ME occasionally sticks or does seem to respond properly with movement. ie: sometimes pull mixer fader across to the right 100% and ME may move 95%. a quick flick of the crossfader will then fix it. Mixer is only a couple of months old and I haven't really used it that much with the midi crossfader as I'm kinda new to this Cheers Steve

Hmmm.... I would check that the MIDI message is being received by MixEmergency. To do this, open up the MIDI window in MixEmergency, and enable the MIDI logging. Then, the next time this occurs, don't fix it by moving the crossfader, but check the MIDI log and see if the last message sent had a value of 0x0 or 0x7F. Or, just copy and past the most recent dozen-or-so lines and then post it here.

Hi, I have had this problem as well with both a DJM700 (using an Edirol UM-1SX USB MIDI interface) and two different SVM1000's (using the direct USB connection on the mixer). DJM800's however always seem to work flawlessly. I have come to the conclusion that this is probably more Pioneer's MIDI implementation on certain mixers. To combat the crossfader issue I set the fader cut distance to about 20%. That way if the MIDI doesn't communicate the full travel, at least the transition will still have completed. This however doesn't affect any rotary pots mapped which use to cause me no end of annoyance when trying to select transitions/effects (until I got my iPad!!). I don't know if implementing something similar to the fader cut for other MIDI controls would be feasible to help with this issue?? Thanks, Ben

Thanks for your responses. I have turned on midi logging and will post here after my gig on wednesday night. Not sure how to set the crossfader cut to 20% but will have a look later

Steve, If you open MixEmergency's preferences and then click on the 'Transition' tab, the fader cut slider is about half way down. Cheers, Ben

Cheers Ben, been really busy. Just set it to 20% and will have a play tonight. I also noticed that when I slide the crossfader slowly the ME slider was jumping which is not great. I did turn on my midi logging but now can't find where the logs are from my Wednesday gig. Nick if you could let me know I will send them to you later Cheers Stephen

The log only gets written to that text box - so there won't be any record from previous gigs. I think I may have found the cause of this, though I'll need to do some testing first.

Cool Nick let me know as the ME crossfader does sometimes jump around and even sometimes you pull it left for instance it bounces the ME crossfader to the right if you know what I mean. Bit of a major nightmare if I'm honest

Hi all I have the 62 and sometimes it would map and others not. Got to a high profile gig and my mappings were saved but wouldn't activate at all, had to use the Keyboard the do transitions and such. Long Story short::::: > Turn on Mac let it boot > Plug your Midi capable devices and turn on ... wait about a minute or so (mixers,keypads, what ever > Then turn on ME let it load and then Scratch Live (if that's what you re using) and (Map if you haven't and of course save mappings That has worked for me with no setting adjustments or problems

Update, I've tried what Ben suggested and it's no good. I just need it to work and to follow my every move on the crossfader. Not had a problem mapping the midi at all it's just about performance. Is it to do with the DJM700 mixer? because if it is I will contact Pioneer as it is pretty new

It's not an issue with your mixer. In this particular case it's an issue caused by the new MIDI output - but that only affects the crossfader. I've managed to fix this, and once the fix is confirmed, then there will be a new version available.

Update: Just got back from the Pioneer service centre and they could not fix the problem. Pulled my DJM700 to pieces as they thought there was a fix which affected older units where 2 capacitors had to be removed but my unit already had them removed. They believe the problem is to do with the midi clock as the mixer needs to be the master so is there a way of making ME a midi slave? The midi signals are getting thru but the midi clocks are believed to not be synced and data is being lost along the way. Please let me know if this is fixable from your end or I will get back to Pioneer. Also tested using one of their units, a DJM2000 which also displayed the same problem with the skipping crossfader.

MixEmergency is simply handed MIDI data by the MIDI functions built into the Mac OS (as will be VirtualDJ - which you mentioned exhibited the same issue). So I suspect that any "data loss" (or whatever it is that is actually going on) is happening outside of MixEmergency.

Cheers Nick. Any chance it could be down to the midi usb controller? I have used a cheaper one and of course the M-Audio Uno which lots of VJs seem to be using. I thought I'd ask you first. I've also tested it without anything else plugged in and the flicker/glitching is still apparent. Got no idea what to do next. Only thing I haven't done is to change the midi channels in the mixer which is on channel 1, not sure if that would help

Doesn't the DJM2000 have MIDI over USB? If it's happening with that, then I wonder if a different MIDI-USB device would really help here.

Didn't try it over the USB, only used the M-Audio Uno device. Thought I'd try other sliders to make sure it wasn't a faulty crossfader but the other 2 sliders for channels 2 & 3 are having the same issue. Just did a test with the original cheap midi controller and at the moment it seems fine. Gonna keep testing it tomorrow after restarts etc because I was having issues with that one before I purchased the Uno

Eureka!! I'm sorted I believe Nick, the cheap nasty USB Midi controller is working perfectly as far as I can tell, just tested it in Serato SL, VDJ & ME. Worked flawlessly for the first time since I've had it. Just mapped all the controls & it's looking very good. Once again thanks for your help. Steve

Hey Nick, I have the same problem with the Pioneer DJM T1. Cross- and Linefaders are not working properly. Is this a general problem with Pioneer mixers? Cheers Danny

So, I think it has something to do with the version of Scratch Live. First I`ve downgraded to 1.9.2. No problems with the Faders. Now I run 2.3.3 and again no problems with the Faders. Problems occur with version 2.3.0. Is this possible? Cheers Danny
