I figured out what was causing the crash with ME. When it seems pretty repeatable. When i have a quartz Compo on both decks, and a text overlay running then click the Midi button. I get a crash everytime.

I recently found and fixed a bug from another user who was having similar issues - and it sounds as though what you're seeing is exactly the same thing. Basically, trying to MIDI map after loading/unloading Quartz Compositions (or switching between windowed and full-screen while QCs are loaded) will cause a crash. So, it'll be fixed in the next version.

will that me a fix update we can expect within weeks, (like a 1.7.1) or will it come in a larger update (1.8)?

Most likely it will be in a major update (so not within weeks.... unless a major update were to come out in the next few weeks).
