You don't actually need to run Video-SL application to import videos into Scratch Live, but you do need to have it installed and have the "enable Video-SL" button checked in the preferences. You can simply install the demo version of Video-SL for this. Unfortunately we are unable to change this importing functionality, as it is something that is in the Scratch Live application code. I would suggest posting on the Serato forums and requesting that this is changed though - as it doesn't just affect MixEmergency (e.g. if you didn't have Video-SL installed, and you only had video files, then you wouldn't be able to load them into Scratch Live, even if you just wanted to play an audio-only gig). I think that once the videos are in your library you can play them without Video-SL installed though - so if a guest VJ plugged his external drive into your computer, then the videos will still be imported correctly.
