Triggering SE effects with Dicers.

Hi Nick, Here's an idea for the SE style effects. Would it be possible to have them trigger when you use the loop roll function on the Dicers? It would be easier to just have it fire when you initially push the button from midi but having them repeat on beat according of the timing of the note triggered would be awesome. For example pushing the 1/16 note down on the Dicer and holding it down would roll at 1/16 note and the SE effect rolling at 1/16 note. Rick

It's an interesting idea.... though I'm not sure that triggering the transitions with the Dicers would be the best solution. There is a trick with the effects that I've shown a few people that you might find interesting.... Bascially, you map the MIDI On note from a Dicer button to an effect preset, and then map the MIDI Off (i.e. when you release it) note from a Dicer button to an empty effect preset (i.e. the None effect). You can map multiple MIDI messages to a single control in MixEmergency - which allows you to map all 10 (left and right) buttons to trigger the empty effect when they are released. This way you can set up different effects to trigger when you push the Dicer buttons, and then have them reset when you release them. I've seen this used quite well with the Bad TV and the Crop Random effect plug-ins.

i use my dicers to trigger midi, like effects, in ME especially in loop roll. it is set to sweep through effects. not quite perfected but if/when i do if there is a way to post the preset i shall. it would be nice if people could post their mappings. but setting them to work on say 1/16 or a specific beat pattern that is a whole other thing. have no idea how to do that. ME would probably have to have an internal bpm counter.

Thanks Nick and Tomatoslice for the Midi info. I didn't know you could assign multiple midi notes to a single control... Good stuff. : ) I was thinking more inline of what tomaslice was thinking of... Having a built in bpm counter that could sync up with SL bpm counter to allow the effect to roll with the drum roll. I have another idea. How about making a feature in ME and call it SE w/ Drum Roll. Instead of making a bpm counter have ME trigger the SE effect when it senses a jump back in time or frame. This way every time the vid rolls back the SE effect would get triggered. If you guys decide to make something like this I would also add: -Allow the end user to enable or disable this feature with a midi mappable button. -Give it a separate column of effects to chose from. (i.e just the SE effects) -Choice of which channel to output: Right-Center-Left

how do you map the on and off in ME

I assume you want to know how to set up the control change MIDI message to trigger when on/off? (otherwise the instructions are the same as I've listed above) So, to do this: 1) (obvious step) Push the MIDI button on the MixEmergency window and then select the control you wish to map 2) Use the MIDI learn function to map your MIDI control 3) Click the Advanced button on the pop-up MIDI window I'm going to assume that you're mapping the Preset buttons 1-12.... 4) In the Interaction menu, select "On" (if you wish to have it trigger when the MIDI Control Change is "Off", then select the Invert option to the right of the Relearn button).

thanks by the way the knobs on my hc1000s do not map correctly to faders or knobs in ME. I tried all the different midi settings but they do not work.
