I know there has been a lot of push for having more than 16 clips in the media bar. I am aware that you can drag a folder into the media bar to get around this limit. But you're still limited to managing the file paths of all the media.
I'd prefer not to shuffle around my media's file path as that would break a lot of connections in other software. I also would like to avoid making multiple copies and fill up my hard drive with double or triple the content.
Symlink or Alias files
At first I thought I could outsmart the media bar by creating a playlist
folder where I create symbolic link / alias files. I figured it acts just like the real file as it points to the same media. Then I can create playlist_birthday
playlist_halloween
that I drag onto the media bar when ready.
My attempts to do this have not loaded the videos. The clips don't even get loaded. I threw in a real .mp4
file in the mix of alias files and yes that did load and play. Any way I could get this working?
m3u, categories, tags
Maybe ME media bar can be setup to read m3u files. Then I can create these playlists inside iTunes or any other media management app. Possible work with categories and tags as well to make it very fast to generate different playlists to match the gig's mood.
How Serato does it well
The workflow in Serato while simple does work very well for me. I'm able to use Crates as my playlist. I can mix and match media for specific holiday's or venus. Then on said gig I drag the Crate's content to the MEDIA folder and let that be the pool where random clips are taken from. All while maximizing disk space.
Is there anyway for ME to read Serato's MEDIA folder instead of the built in ME media bar?
