djsinner, what are the settings for your external monitor? (i.e. size, refresh rate) Ideally you want it set to around 640x480 (or maybe 800x600). Also, if possible, try setting the refresh rate to something other than 60 Hz (e.g. 50 Hz), as often this can fix the issue that you're seeing. vio0633 is correct: unchecking the "sychronize outpu...." option should stop this from occuring, but it also introduces the possibility of getting "tearing" into the output (which can look quite bad).
