Last month I did a VJ gig using M/E in stand-alone mode. Since it wasn't hooked up to Serato, I was hoping I could sync the audio somewhat by sending a MIDI Clock signal from the mixer (which is a DJM 900 Nexus). But for some reason it wouldn't work and there just wasn't time to troubleshoot so I had to abandon it and stick to doing everything manually. Last night, in preparation for next month's gig, I tested on a DJM 800, but got some mixed results there too. For a start, I know the mixer was sending MIDI clock data accurately because when testing it with Resolume, the BPM info was accurate. It was responding well to the pitch slider and Resolume was keeping time perfectly. Mix Emergency however, was not. The speed seemed right but the phrase/timing cycle was off. Worse still, something baffling was happening when it came to MIDI mapping. When I would move some of the controls on the mixer, they were controlling M/E even though they were clearly not mapped. It was as if they were natively mapped to M/E, which clearly can't be the case. Now I've been having some MIDI conflict issues at home, but this was on another setup with different gear and a clean, empty MIDI map, so unless it's something to do with my Mac, I assume the issue is with M/E. What was interesting was that both the APC40 I was using and the DJM800 were both transmitting on MIDI Ch1, with no way to select different channels from the devices. There was also no way to send just the MIDI clock and not other MIDI data from the 800. I was hoping for a way to manage this within M/E but there doesn't seem to be. I also hoped I could change channels on my Mac's Audio/MIDI panel but it wasn't letting me. So first of all, I'd like some help nailing this issue if possible, because I need to try and resolve it and fast. Although Resolume has its advantages, I'm not a VJ and would much prefer to use M/E for what I want to do because it's what I use the rest of the time; it's perfectly capable and I like using it. Unfortunately, I don't have either mixer available to me for testing so that presents an additional challenge. I'd also like to request adding bpm readout info to M/E in future because I found that really helpful and if it IS there, I can't see it. And, if it's possible, the ability to set which channel a device is sending on and if not (which I doubt), a way to help manage conflicts like this when there is no other way of controlling them.
