No Vertical Sync?

I´ve read about stuttering waveforms and have the same issue. I can life with that, but the Output screen seems like it has no vertical sync. I can see how the refreshrate is not the same over the whole screen. It cuts in the middle. I've recorded a mix to see if there is a cut in the video. It isn't looking like that. So this problem is only when Im using ME with the live Output screen. System: 2014 Macbook Pro 15 Retina with Yosemite i7 2,8 Ghz 16 GB Ram 1 TB HDD Geforce GT 750m

In the Advanced section of MixEmergency's Preferences, do you have the option "Synchronise Output to Screen Refresh" enabled? How are you connecting your computer to your output screen? I've seen one user have an issue with something similar after upgrading to Mac OS X 10.10 (Yosemite).

Yes it is enabled. HDMI output.

Do you have an adaptor to try connecting to an external display via the other port?

Yes I normally use hdmi, but I have an thunderbolt to dvi / vga / hdmi connector. Same issue with dvi.I could try vga as well, but I think it'll be the same as with dvi and hdmi

Are you comfortable using applications such as Quartz Composer, or perhaps you have another VJing application (such as Resolume Avenue)? I'm just wondering if you could try one of these applications and see if you have similar issues. The one other user I've seen with this has had this with all applications on the external monitor.

Serato Video is the only VJ App I have, beside ME. But it looks ok, even when I disable the V-Sync. I switched to ME because SV can't handle HD Videos. It drops to 15 frames or below especially when I mix 2 Full HD Vids.

I've created a file for you to use to test this: http://www.inklen.com/public/vsyncTester.zip Can you download, unzip, and then: 1) Load the Quartz Composition onto one of MixEmergency's channels and just verify that you can see the video is cutting as though it the vertical sync isn't working when full-screen. 2) See if you can open the file with QuickTime X. Drag the window to your external display. Does it looks as though the image is torn there too? And what about when it is full-screen?

I tested it 5 times with ME - 1. it was smooth, then I received a message in my Mailbox and it started to chop the video. 2. 2 min, then it started to chop 3. 1:15min 4: 10 sec 5. immediately after i dragged the composition into the channel I tried it 2 times with quicktime. seems very smooth. It still runs on fullscreen while I'm typing this. 5 minuets later... still nothing happens

Hi If I can chime in here!! The same is happening to me!! I have the same (vsync) problems! Checked all the above and all is good with settings! Done the above tests with the quartz composer (only on my Apple monitor via thunderbolt, but normally use Thunderbolt to HDMI cable too). Okay, So tested it once today, loaded up the .qtz file and straight away on the small (not full screen) mix preview window is was tearing (but not on the deck window), then went full screen and it was still tearing. When I went back to smaller mix screen, it was fine!! Double clicked and it was fine in full screen!! Then loaded the same on the quartz composer (2 lines going from side to side) and it started tearing again!! Did the same as above in rotation and it occasionally was fine and then teating again. Since then,I tested it QT and was fine in both samall and full screen. Went back to recreate in ME and couldn't get it to tear no matter what!! Very bizzare??? All I know, I have noticed this tearing kinda effect and have been racking my brain with the settings!! Best regards Keith

Thanks for posting. So, you're saying the Quartz Composer was tearing as well, is that right?

Hi Nick Sorry, wasn't tracking discussion! Yes, either loading the vsynctester.qtz in to the decks or quartz comp in the overlays panel produced the same tearing. Just tested it again and it did the tearing thing! I Had the output on the same screen again, and noticed that I could stop it by making the output screen size smaller or larger. But then when changing from deck to quartz in the overlay!! it stated tearing again!. Hope this helps. Ps. Ah, I misunderstood what you meant (Quartz Composer = the application, Quartz Composition = the file). Do you have the Quartz Composer application installed?

Sorry, I tested it all in ME. Using the vsynctester.qtz file by just dragging it straight on to the deck player, then I ejected that and dragged it in to the quartz composition player in the overlays panel. And yes, I do have the QC app installed! Just tested the file in that and couldn't get it to tear. Going full screen, manually resizing the screen when smaller. All fine in Quartz Composer (as with quick time). Regards Keefy

Can you try this one test: if you have MixEmergency on one screen (windowed), and Quartz Composer full-screen on your external monitor - does the output of Quartz Composer tear?

Okay Did as you asked and this is what happened. Connected laptop to monitor via HDMI. Opened vsyn.qtz in Quartz Composer and moved to external screen, toggling full screen and windowed and all was good. Then on laptop screen, opened up ME and before I had loaded any media, the QC view on the other screen started tearing. Loaded up the vsync.qtz in ME and both were tearing. Resizing the windowed ME output view briefly got rid of the tearing but it soon started to do it again. The only time I could get QC to tear was when ME was running. Keefy

Ok - that's interesting. Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. Perhaps you can do one further test. Make a copy of the vsync.qtz file (e.g. "vsync copy.qtz"). Next open both the vsync.qtz and "vsync copy.qtz" in Quartz Composer. There should now be 2 output windows - one from the original file and one from the copy. Move one of these to the external screen and make it go full-screen. The other should still be rendering on the internal screen. Do either of the output views have problems? And if not, are they both showing around 60 FPS (the number down in the bottom left corner of each composition's output)?
