Memory Leak in Mix Emergency?!?!

Macbook Pro Specs: - Early 2011 - 13" MBP - 16 GB RAM - Intel HD 3000 Graphics Card - Intel i5 2.3 Ghz Processor Currently running Mix Emergency 2.7.1 on various versions on Serato DJ (1.5.2, 1.7, 1.7.2). Have a quick question? My friend and I were messing around on the tables and accidentally opened Serato Video (on SDJ 1.7.2). We couldn't help but notice how much more CPU usage Mix Emergency used over Serato Video. We were streaming wirelessly (through Apple TV) and then hardwired...same result. We ran the specs up and down on Serato Video and Mix Emergency...same result. Am I doing something wrong here? Is their something I can do to lower the CPU usage while using ME? I realize that ME is a lot more powerful than Serato Video but I was just curious.

Maybe you can check a few things, like the Quality level that you have Serato Video set to, and the rate of FPS that it is actually putting out. What dimensions was your output monitor?

IMO it's coming from the fact Serato Video uses Quicktime to play video. Quicktime uses GPU hardware acceleration to read videos on intel i5 and i7 machine with OSX since Mountain Lion. That is why Serato Video uses less CPU than MixEmergency. The decoding of the video is handled by the GPU to reduce CPU usage. ME doesn't work the same way. It doesn't really decode videos. MixEmergency uses QuickTime too, so it's likely not that.

So a true memory leak problem in ME ? You were the one who told me ME doesn't decode video and that it was more complex.....

Why would it be a memory leak? MixEmergency doesn't do the video decoding directly, it does it via the QuickTime libraries.

Haha - well, it's not likely a problem with memory. It may be down to the settings that he has used. Quite often people leave the Quality on Serato Video on Medium, which is effectively a little lower than what people usually refer to as "SD quality". So if you're running out to a 1080P (Full HD) external monitor, you might notice the different (as MixEmergency will be putting out much higher quality video).
