Live video feed?

Hello, Just downloaded the demo and plan to mess around with it later today. I love the transitions and visuals included. My question is this....... Is there a way to run a live video feed into your program? I have been wanting to do this but am not ready to buy an expensive Roland V-4 or V-8 mixer. If this is not available, how hard would it be to include some sort of feature or button that allows you to switch from video or visuals to live video from a web cam or something similar?

Also, is there a place to get more .qtz visuals? Like there is to get effect video loops?

Currently you can display a live video feed in MixEmergency using a Quartz Composition. To do this you simply need a Quartz Composition with a Video Input patch connected to a Billboard patch. There are a few websites that have .qtz files for download. A lot of them have files that aren't too great though. I would suggest either creating the files yourself, or working with a VJ that does know to create them. We will be working to add more example Quartz Compositions to the installer in the future.

Nick, thank you for the reply, I'm new to this "quartz" imaging. How do I find a Quartz composition with video input through "billboard"? I'm not even sure what "Billboard" means... With a macbookpro, how would I do this? I've been wanting to mix live video footage into my sets since I got into video a year ago. This would be my ultimate wish & with MixEmergency, it could finally happen! Forgive my ignorance but I'm starting from scratch on this.

What type of video camera are you using, and what version of OS X do you have? I can quickly make you a composition to try out if you would like. Just warning you that it may take me a few days to send you one though, as I'm right in the middle of shifting the office.

Dude, you would sooooo rock! It would be a massive help. I'm not in a hurry. I've been waiting a year to be able to include live video. An extra week won't hurt :-) I'm using OSX 10.5.5 with Leopard I plan to use a standard web cam that I can plug into my usb hub. Nothing fancy. Just a very simple way to plug directly into my laptop and link it for live video feed to TV screens.

I'd like to jump on this bandwagon and ask for that quartz thing to. I myself would like to do live video feed. Also using 10.5.5 and would also be using a web cam. Thanks to you both.

Great find! Good info about quartz compositions! I read it & did see that I had it on my laptop. I was able to create my own "Live Video Feed" quartz file!!!! I tested it out and it works in MixEmergency! It does "stall" but wondering if that will happen when I'm doing a live set in a club. Now, I want to install an external web cam and do the same thing for a "Dancefloor" cam.

Hey guys, I've just done a few tests with the Video Input patch in Quartz Composer. It's not performing to the standards that I would expect it to. I will look into options for this for a future MixEmergency release. Also, I found a bug that will cause either a pause or possibly a complete lock-up of MixEmergency when using certain Quartz Composer files. I've fixed this bug, and the fix will be in the next release of MixEmergency (which will be very soon).

Nick, I noted that the live feed crashes ME when you load another video on the same deck without ejecting the live feed. It would be great if you can load a live feed on a different window like in the case of text overlay and image overlay. Again, great work ME team

Yeah, the bug I found was happening only when ejecting the live feed. It has been fixed and the new version will be out soon. Would be cool to add a live video feed like the text/image overlay, but I think it would be better to load video streams directly to the deck - then you can add effects and transition it with other videos/quartz compositions just like a regular video. This would also mean that you could load multiple video input streams.

Hey djalexs, can you please start a new discussion if you have an unrelated issue. It looks as though the problem you are having is with Scratch Live - as MixEmergency has nothing to do with ID3 tags. Does the problem occur even when you don't run MixEmergency? It's possible to use a live video camera input - but only with a QuickTime compatible camera (which the GoPro is not at this stage).
