Mac Quits on MixEmergency 2.1.0 Start up.

My mac screen goes black and the applications quit but the keys stay lit. I have to force my Mac to shut down the rest of the way and reboot. It's been happening every once in a while but as of yesterday it happens every time I try to open 2.1& 2.0. It's ok when I open 1.7.2. I reset the SMC and the NVRAM but it hasn't helped. Any help is appreciated.

I'm not sure that I understand what you mean in your first sentence - especially "but the keys stay lit".

Sorry, I'll try to explain better. The screen will all of a sudden go black but the light under the type keys will stay lit. Also the light on the front of the mac will stay lit. I have to hit the power button to completely shut the computer down, then power again to reboot it. I think it's a problem with my mac but since it's only happening when I open M.E. I thought I'd check if you've ever seen or heard this before. Thanks

If you push the keyboard short-cut command+Q does MixEmergency exit? I'm wondering if it's just a case of the output window being larger than your screen.

No, it doesn't do anything. I thought that too at first but it's not the window. Serato locks up and the music will quit playing. It will do it even when I have no other applications open. I'll start up my computer, open M.E. first and it will still do it. Freezes up every time.

Do you have any external hardware/screens connected? Or any virtual screen software installed? (for example, software to mirror your screen to an iPad, etc)

Nope, I don't have any external hardware connected.

What version of Mac OS are you using? And can you try this with the latest version (2.4)?

I have 10.6.8 and I downloaded 2.4 ME this morning and tried to open it but the same thing happened with 2.4 too.

What are the specs of your Mac? If you connect an external monitor and then start MixEmergency, do you get the same result (black on both screens)?

Yes, the other screen goes black and says no input.

I have a 2010 late model Macbook Pro. I see from apple support that a lot of people with macbooks and macbook airs have this issue or an issue similar. Just not sure why Mix Emergency is triggering it for me. About 6 months ago it would happen when I opened a Vimeo window to full screen until I reset the SMC and NVRAM. The problem seemed to have went away but now it's back and happening only when Mix Emergency 2.0 and higher is opened.

Oh, ok - it sounds as though there's something wrong at a lower level than MixEmergency. It's the first time I've ever heard of this type of thing occurring.

Thanks for the help Nick. I did a clean install of Snow Leopard and it stopped shutting down when ME is opened. It did shut down when I went into time machine back ups though, so I'm sure it is a problem with this mac that has something to do with playing video or intricate graphics.

I'm glad to hear that it's working, but it's a little worrying that it appears to be so random.
