Movie Export error -108

I´m trying to export a 9 hour live set :-) But I´m getting this error with ME 2.3 & 2.4 in every atemp at the 2nd pass. I found a article about error -49 in this forum and followed the instructions there to disable time machine, but with no success. ... so, what is this ?

I believe it's an error singalling that the memory available to MixEmergency has been used up. The problem here will be that the recording file is probably taking up a large amount of memory when it is read in. You could try reducing the cache size in MixEmergency's advanced Preferences to the lowest amount and see if this helps. Other than that, the only thing that can probably be done is to rewrite the importing code in MixEmergency to try to reduce the amount of memory used - it's not something that I would be able to do in the near future though. Alternatively, making MixEmergency a 64-bit application would also fix this - but it's not something that I'm able to do yet due to a number of reasons (though I wish I could).

hmmm ... with setting the cache down to 200MB it worked to the 4th pass! but than again error -108. i noticed that my start volume was full at this moment (only 17MB free memory) but after restarting the computer i had my normal 68GB free space on my start volume. i am exporting the movie to a other drive with more than 1,5 TB free space not to the startvolume. so i want you to ask: is ME using temporary space on the start volume during the export process ? and if so: is there a way to change this ?

Yeah, it uses temporary space (the movie is exported to a file, and then that file needs to go through a secondary process right at the end), and so you need to have twice the size of the exported movie file of space free on your hard drive. As your file will be huge, you can also expect quite a significant wait at the end of the 4th pass. To save time you may want to consider exporting with one of the "Faster" presets, which will only do a single pass through the file, though will result in a slightly lower quality. It'll save you time in figuring out if the export will work though.

thanks for the info ! but there is another thing on my mind now: i don´t know, but maybe i´am the only one who its trying to export a whole night video-set. (i´m doing this only for my memories (i have also recorded some night-sets in the past on VHS) & as demo for other club-managers) so just to think about it. i personally use a 256GB SSD als startup drive. there may be people with smaller ssd´s. so wouldn't it be better to give ME a option to choose a different temporary working folder and lets say, a auto split function every 2-3 hours, for mammut recordings ? because a other thing i noticed just some minutes ago, i´ve set audio to .wav record and the file is broken after 6:45 hrs. but the hole set is mor than 9 hrs long. (i personally don´t know if there is a time limit for wav files so i will try this weekend with .aiff and see what happen)

with auto split i ment ME to make 2 or 3 hrs chunks during the recording of the evening. or suitable to the size of a dvd or bluray or whatever ... so you just have to press record at the beginning of th night and ME makes the rest ;-)

Yeah, this is the reason that there is the Apple Lossless recording option (which should have been enabled by default). It not only records to a smaller file size, but is able to record longer durations. You can also choose to export only certain sections of the file, if you want, using the time selection bar at the top of the export window.

... agh sorry again ! 2 weeks ago i got my new 2013 MBP Retina. I´ve recorded a new 9hr set with it (using SL 25011 & ME 2.4) and tried to export it (in pieces of 1hr) but with every attempt to export the set i get this dammed movie export error -108 ! I have tried some different export settings (.mov, .mp4, Apple TV) but its every time the same. is it possible that this problem is related to the graphic driver vom OS X 10.9.1 ? i have also tried to export with different versions of ME (2.2, 2.3.1, 2.4)

When you get the error, can you check at the file path that you're exporting to to see if there is any file there, and if so, how large it is? Can you also check how large that file is, and how much disk space you have remaining? Also, I would recommend setting the Cache size in the Advanced section of MixEmergency to the lowest value possible.

Buffer is set down to 200MB (lowest), there is a file at the destination path but it disappears when ME gets the error -108 at the beginning of the 4th pass! so i can´t tell you how big the file is. free space on hard disk 165GB. (with buffer set to 2GB it quits at the beginning of the 1st pass with -108)

Are you able to export smaller pieces? For example, 10 minutes? 30 minutes?

no ... have tried 10 & 30 min. both quit at the beginning of the 4th pass with -108

Hmm. Perhaps I will need to put in some sort of recording splitting. Technically you could try to trim the end off the recording file yourself.

agh .. sorry ... (that smight be a silly question but) i`m a little bit confused about this ! what do you mean with trim ? how can i do that ?

It's a little more complicated (i.e. it will require the use of some sort of file editor). If you want to try this, send me an e-mail and I'll figure out some instructions for you to do it.
