Public Beta 2 low frame rate and Low memory Reports

My system is as follows -MacBook Pro 160G HD, -2,4GHz -2GB RAM -Nvidia 8600 GT with 256MB dedicated ddr3 -Mac OS 10.5.4 -WD 500GB External HD (using Firewire 400MB) -WD 320GB External HD (Using USB 2.0) Ecler Nuo 4 Mixer with Midi dedicated to both Serato and Mix Emergency(connected Via USB) Serato Scratch 1.8.2 with VSL 1.0.2 Demo I downloaded the ME public Beta 2 and was palying a few videos and still geting the Low frame rate and Low memory Error, **Videos are encoded with SUPER encoder** -11.9-15 Frame rate, -MP4 H.264 , AAC_LC audio, I have also ; -Reduced ME Cache to almost 200MB(Response is really slow, and the vidoes actually Freezes) -Reduced the output quality to Medium, -Disabled Frame Blending, -Not Using any Effects -Airport and Bluetooth Turned off, Only Serato and ME running. ** Activity Monitor Stats** #On start up 1)Serato, serato uses 178MB on CPU a)Loading a Video(without ME) 198MB b)Running ME 198MB 2) ME, on startup 207MB on CPU a)Loading Video(Serato running) 337MB b)Playing Video (Searo Running) 538MB***At Low frame rates reports shows all the time except when playing QT compositions** Please assist, Thank you in advance, Regards

Thanks for giving us such a detailed report. We have had several reports so far that the Public Beta is not performing well with NVIDIA Geforce 8600 graphics processors ( http://www.inklen.com/mixemergency/knownissues/ ). We hope to have this fixed soon. The older ATI graphics processors are unaffected by this issue. The frame rates you are experiencing seem very low however. What dimensions and bitrate are your videos encoded at? They may also be that low if you are running out of memory (as you say you are getting the low memory warning). We recommend closing all other applications before starting Scratch LIVE and MixEmergency. With 2 GB of RAM, Scratch LIVE and MixEmergency running we would recommend a buffer level of around 400 MB.

Nick, Thanks for your feedback, the videos are encoded at Video scale of 640:368, aspect ratio 16:9 and 1200 kbps bitrate. I am thinking of increasing the Ram from 2G to 4Gb

ME running flawless, few tipis guys, -Check activity Monitor, for the kernel task and see how much memory its using-should be below 100MB. -From above: if kernel task is using more ram check external hardrives(disconnect,DVI output,Midi controllers ,printers etc) -Lower the distance between key frames when encoding especially if using H.264 MP4. Note the difference between Frame rate and Distance between keyframes. Well thats just what i did and its all good.

Mambomuziki, I see that you have the Ecler Nuo 4 Mixer. Does it work successfully with Mix Emergency (Midi Wise)?

DjKillBill, It does work well, just note that edit all the midi channel using Control lab4(MErecognizes the midi channels as the midi notes) On the other side you cannot control the all effects parameters using one knob(ie if u assign a knob to control internal it won't work when you change to velocity or position. Otherwise the response is great and the crossfader features allows you to mix videos nicely.A+

Lol, (Code Red familiar) your name looked African. Small world. What's up man? I just checked out the Ecler Website. Actually the one you have(Nuo4) is the only one that supports MIDI. Nuo4.0 doesn't so it looks like be getting what u have. I'd really like to get some input on your use of the Ecler mixer if you don't mind.

Just a note on the original topic: The issue of poor performance when using NVIDIA graphics processors has been fixed in MixEmergency Public Beta 3.

Nick, Does ME keep or store a log when it crashes, its crashed on me yesterday and I would like to send you the Log. The 3rd Beta seems to be smoother which is good. Cheers

Yes, there should be a log located on your computer at ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MixEmergency.crash.log (or just type MixEmergency.crash.log into Spotlight). Can you send this file to us - we would be very interested in looking at it.
