Video choppy, any recommendations?

So the bar that I do on Fridays recently had a remodel and installed a huge 65 inch TV. They ran an HDMI to the DJ booth so I'm going straight into the TV. I notice that the playback isn't as smooth as the last TV they had there, the videos aren't very smooth if that makes any sense. Why would my videos look fine on the other TV (also used HDMI cable) and choppy on this one? Do I need to change anything in my display preferences?

Yeah, it may be your display preferences. I'm guessing that the output is set to high-definition dimensions - it may be that it's going out at 1920 x 1080, while on the old TV it maybe have been lower.

So what should I change it to?

Something lower - you'll have to try a few different settings to see what you're happy with in terms of image quality, and video performance. Alternatively you can reduce the Quality slider in the Preferences of MixEmergency - though, setting it to something in the Display Preferences might be a better option.

So changing it to 1600x900 did the trick but now I'm wondering how much quality I'm compromising. Would getting a new computer solve this issue? I'd like to be able to play my videos at the highest quality possible.

What laptop and Mac OS version are you currently using?

I fixed the problem Nick. I ended up just using the non-HD setting. My computer must be too slow to do HD. I have a 2.66 Intel Core i7 with 8gb of RAM.
